DEFINITION:
Digitally enhanced or technology enhanced?

Why "digitally enhanced" and not "technology enhanced"? First, almost all technology today is either digital or enabled by digital tools. For example, Boeing now does 100% of the design and prototyping of their airplanes using a digital simulation application. Second, digital technology is distinguished from all other technologies by its programmability, that is, its ability to be made to do, with ever-increasing degrees of precision, what each of us wants. That capacity for customization is at the heart of the digital revolution. Third, digital technology is putting more and more power on smaller and smaller versions of the microprocessors that are at the heart of much cognition-enhancing technology. This miniaturization, along with its continually falling cost, is what will eventually make digital technology available to all, although clearly at different rates in different places.
